Odenton, MD (September 4, 2025)  — Black People Die By Suicide Too is honored to announce that, in recognition of Janiah Fields being named a Birdland Community Hero, the Baltimore Orioles Charitable Foundation has made a $5,000 donation to support the organization. Janiah, a dedicated advocate for Black mental health and suicide prevention, proudly selected Black People Die By Suicide Too as her charity of choice.

At just 20 years old, Janiah has already made remarkable contributions to the field of mental health advocacy. A recent graduate of McDaniel College with bachelor’s degree in psychology and africana studies, she has demonstrated compassion, integrity, and purpose on campus, in the community, and on the national stage.

From mentoring students transitioning from Baltimore City Public Schools to representing Black youth mental health advocacy at the White House, Janiah’s work is deeply rooted in love, lived experience, and cultural responsibility. She has collaborated with leading organizations such as the Black Mental Health Alliance, SAMHSA, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is now pursuing her master’s in clinical psychology at Northwestern University.

“We are profoundly grateful to Janiah for selecting Black People Die By Suicide Too as her charity of choice, and to the Orioles Charitable Foundation for their generous support,” said T-Kea Blackman, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Black People Die By Suicide Too. “This recognition affirms the urgent need for culturally grounded mental health care in Black communities, and it uplifts the voices of those we serve. Janiah’s leadership inspires hope for the future of mental health advocacy, and we are proud to walk alongside her in this work.”

Black People Die By Suicide Too extends its heartfelt thanks to both Janiah Fields and the Orioles Charitable Foundation for uplifting its mission and affirming the importance of community-rooted mental health care.
