At Black People Die By Suicide Too (BPDBST), we believe that knowledge is power especially when it comes to saving lives.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, we reached a major milestone in our commitment to suicide prevention and education. Our Executive Director T-Kea Blackman, MPS, CPRS, RPS, and Executive/Administrative Assistant officially became certified QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) instructors!
QPR is a nationally recognized suicide prevention training that equips individuals with the skills to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis, confidently ask the right questions, and refer someone to the help they need. Often described as the “CPR for mental health,” QPR is a simple yet powerful framework that can truly make the difference between life and death.
We’re excited to begin offering QPR trainings to better equip our community especially Black individuals with the life-saving tools, knowledge, and confidence to support one another during mental health challenges. As an organization led by individuals with lived experience, we know how crucial it is to have accessible, culturally relevant resources rooted in compassion, education, and hope.
A special thank you to EveryMind, Inc. for hosting such an impactful and empowering training. Your support helps us continue our mission to disrupt stigma, foster connection, and build a community of healing.
Stay tuned for upcoming QPR training dates and how you can participate.
Because every life is worth saving and Black mental health matters too.
