About the Role
As our Development Specialist/Grant Writer, you’ll be the mastermind behind our fundraising efforts, securing funding that keeps BPDBST’s mission alive and thriving. From researching funding opportunities to writing compelling proposals and tracking grant impact, you’ll be a key part of ensuring our work continues to support Black individuals impacted by suicide.

Contract Term: 10 months (renewable based on performance and funding)
Hours: 25-30 hours per month
Compensation: $10,000
Location: Remote
Your Superpowers (aka Key Responsibilities)
Grant Writing, Sponsorships, & Proposal Development (65%)
- Scout out foundations, corporations, and local government grants that align with BPDBST’s mission.
- Maintain an organized grant calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting.
- Stay ahead of funding trends in mental health and suicide prevention, especially those focusing on Black communities.
- Develop letters of intent (LOIs), full applications, and supporting materials to secure funding.
Grant Reporting & Compliance (5%)
- Keep our funders in the loop by tracking awarded grants, ensuring compliance, and submitting timely reports.
- Prepare impact statements and progress reports that showcase how funds are making a difference.
- Keep detailed records of submissions, approvals, and rejections (because knowledge is power).
Fundraising Support & Capacity Building (5%)
- Think beyond grants! Recommend donor engagement strategies and corporate sponsorship opportunities.
- Help us explore new revenue streams to keep our programs sustainable.
- Support leadership in crafting fundraising materials when needed.

Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Health or Administration, English, Business, or a related field (preferred).
- Equivalent work experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development will be considered in place of a degree.
- As a contractor, you are required to provide your own equipment and tools necessary to perform job responsibilities (e.g. laptop, desktop, or tablet with high-speed internet access.)
