Exciting News: Executive Director T-Kea Blackman to be Featured in Upcoming Documentary ‘Freedom in Healing’

Our 2024 Black & Suicidal Peer Support Group Sponsor, the Black Women’s Mental Health Institute (BWMHI), is proud to announce the upcoming release of its powerful documentary Freedom in Healing, set to premiere in September 2025. Among those featured in this impactful film is our very own T-Kea Blackman, MPS, CPRS, RPS, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Black People Die By Suicide Too (BPDBST). Produced by Undercover Entertainment, Freedom in Healing shares the personal stories of four suicide attempt survivors, highlighting the unique and interwoven challenges of suicide within the Black community, specifically among Black women and girls.

This documentary is a vital exploration of the mental health struggles that many Black women and girls endure, often in silence. Through these personal narratives, Freedom in Healing seeks to break the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health while addressing the systemic and cultural barriers that impact well-being. The recently released teaser offers a glimpse into the courageous and raw stories shared in the film. T-Kea’s involvement in this project reflects her continued commitment to raising awareness and advocating for mental health and suicide prevention within the Black community.
